Sonepur mela (fair), India's famous and Asia's biggest cattle/ animal fair to be open on 21st Novt for this year/ 2010. The fair gets inaugurated on the day of Kartik poornima every year at the holy confluence of Ganga&Gandak. Officialy, it lasts for 15 days to one month but many of the Mela features even continue till January. Jumbos are the main feature of the month long event but it is also known for the exhibitions, Kisan mela, delicacies served in the mela, wholesome entertainment (circus, wheels, swings, death wells, magic shows, folk dance& shows etc) and most importanty, the Night life...

Sonepur, being a small town, can also be good place to stay in the Cottages of the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC), especially built for the fair-goers at the mela site itself.
